Adhere
I am "Mr. Fix-it" in my home. When my two rowdy boys were younger, they knew that if something broke, they could bring it to Dad, and I’d find a way to get it back together. I can't count the number of toys I've put back together after some imaginary epic battle or an awesome toy car jump. Naturally, superglue has become my go-to for small plastic toys. That glue works wonders. However, I have learned that a broken piece won't adhere rightly unless you apply the right amount of weight and pressure. There is a lesson in that fact.
I was reminded of this thought when I read the Apostle John's famous words written in the Bible. He wrote, "But to as many as did receive and welcome Him [Jesus], He gave the authority [power, privilege, right] to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name..." (John 1:12 AMP)
“ It’s in the pressure of holding onto God who pushes His promise deep into our spirit, mind, and emotions.”
The Holy Spirit reminded me that to get God's Word to stick, you have to wait and adhere to the truth. It's in the pressure of holding onto God who pushes His promise deep into our spirit, mind, and emotions. The time we spend thinking, meditating, and holding on to what God is teaching us is like the Father working to adhere truth to our broken peace. When the wait is over, God has brought us that much closer to wholeness.
Remember next time the Lord is teaching you something new in His word, that you aren’t just learning to hear it, you are learning to adhere to it to ensure it sticks deep into your heart.
